I am completely self-taught as an artisan. With that said, my only education in art stems from my ancestors and my heritage. Growing up in Eastern Kentucky, I had the unique opportunity of studying the skillful craftsmanship of local blacksmiths, basket makers, weavers, quilt makers, and furniture makers. The dedication and love these artisans held for their labor inspired me to take the same careful, meticulous approach to my art. Using this pride and devotion as the backbone of my work since carving professionally in 1979, I have refined my own unique style and technique throughout the years. My goal has remained the same throughout the years – to capture and freeze in time the fleeting beauty and movement of my natural subjects.
